Arthritis - Get rid of pain

Arthritis is a term widely used to describe many conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. There are different types of arthritis: osteoarthritis, which is caused by joint wear and rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the joints of the body.

The most common type is osteoarthritis and the symptoms may include pain, swelling in the joints and stiffness affecting the range of motion in the joints. Other symptoms may still be loss of sleep, weight gain and even gastrointestinal problems, often due to the medication you can take to treat the symptoms of this condition.

Diet has a major impact on your health. Weight gain can be a side effect of arthritis because the pain may involve your activity levels, which is why it is important to stay active. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables and limiting meats, grains and dairy products can help. Care should also be taken in relation to certain foods and the allergies that these can cause, namely joint swelling.

Exercise will help lower weight gain and increase muscle circulation and flexibility, strengthening them. The type of exercise, however, is important, such as running and lifting weights will only serve to increase your pain. The exercise should be mild to moderate, such as tai-chi, water exercises such as hydrotherapy, aerobics or swimming. A heated pool will calm the joints. Walking is also good, especially short hikes. Yoga is also great for joint mobility, but make sure with a specialist before you start, especially if your condition is severe.

Massage can be a great way to help soothe the pain and swelling. Try some aromatherapy oils to help with the pain. Massage gently around painful joints to relieve stiffness and inflammation.

There are also a variety of herbs and spices that can help treat arthritis. Ask yourself a naturopath about which natural treatments best fit your condition. Do not self-medicate only through the internet or the local natural products store. Natural health care is not limited to buying a bottle of supplements on a shelf.
