Is there any rule to breathe while performing exercise?

Is there any rule to breathe while performing exercise?

When we perform any form of exercise is very important to have in mind the right way to breathe.

However the rule can be modified according to the purpose of the exercise and the emphasis in the requested muscles, for example, when performing an arm  flexion(shoulder flexion) if you want to reach the maximum amplitude will be appropriate to conduct an inspiration because inspiratory muscles are involved in trunk extension and this movement combined with elevation of the arm will provide a bigger range of motion.

However, the general rule is to exhale when you lift / pull a load and inspires when low or controls this same charge. It is a contradiction to what has been mentioned above, but remember that there is no rule without exception and in the exercise all depends on the goal.
